Swallowtail cement their live success with debut EP 'Seesaw'
If you've seen the band live, you'll understand the hype around them
Swallowtail are a band who may have been on the scene longer than you realise. Do you remember a Notts band called Smokey Penny from a few years back? Well, that is in fact Swallowtail in their early days.
The band have gone from strength to strength since the re-brand, with a string of shows on Nottingham’s live circuit - including some support slots for big names at The Bodega and Rescue Rooms - seeing them get better and better each time.
They seem to have gone from strength to strength, making it the perfect time for them to play their own headline show - taking place at The Grove tomorrow, 3rd May.
And what better excuse for your own headline show, than an EP launch? Hence, the arrival of their debut EP, ‘Seesaw’.

If you want to go along to the show, it is unsurprisingly already sold out, but you’ve already been spoiled, as the EP is six tracks long - a generous offering, with most EPs consisting of four or five tracks at most.
The title track, which began as an acoustic piece, was the first song they developed as a band, sticking with them over time - and for good reason.
Elsewhere, opening track ‘Laughter’ packs a little more punch, with attention-catching opening guitar riffs, and immediately after, ‘To Trace’ provides a softer side to the band, complete with dreamy, ethereal vocals.
Meanwhile, the opening of the third track and first single, ‘Drift’ is driven by a thundering bassline, destined to be performed in a crowded venue as smoke billows onto the stage.
Towards the end, ‘Running From A Swan Song In Red Kitten Heels’ is perhaps the most dreamy and atmospheric moment on the entire project, before ‘Vega Burns’ rounds things off with a drum-driven track that concludes with a show stopping instrumental.
While there will be many of you reading this who are gutted they missed out on a ticket to the headline show tomorrow, they will be performing at New Currents Festival on Monday 5th May - with no tickets required and free entry - so don’t panic.
‘Seesaw’ only proves what we already knew beforehand, especially for a band who are still so young: Swallowtail are definitely one to watch.
‘Seesaw’ is available across all streaming platforms now.
