Davoli teams up with Penny Moon’s Jess Beer for ‘Tarmac Trees’ EP
An iconic Notts duo is formed…
Notts’ very own Americana song slinger Davoli has always been one to watch. From his debut album ‘Notes For A New Year’ to more recent single ‘Budget Aeroplane’, he never disappoints.
When we heard his latest offering, a four-track EP called ‘Tarmac Trees’, would feature Jess Beer, we were even more excited. If you’re unfamiliar with Jess, she’s part of Penny Moon, another great Notts band you should check out.
But, back to this EP. With it’s loose and melodic charm, leaving you with feelings that summer is arriving, ‘Tarmac Trees’ is full of quiet revelations and drifting guitars, marrying alt-folk warmth with raw, confessional lyricism.
Opening with the track ‘Old Friend’, a wistful, sun-drenched track about memory, distance and time, this sets the tone for what is an understated but powerful release that finds two distinctive voices meeting in the middle.
Next comes ‘Charlie’, where lo-fi melancholia meets lyrical storytelling in a bittersweet character study, before a stripped-back, haunting cover of Radiohead’s ‘Bones’ sees the track reimagined through dual harmonies and minimalist guitar.
The EP concludes with ‘Flood’, an emotional crescendo awash in layered textures and raw vulnerability. Balancing intimacy and atmosphere, ‘Tarmac Trees’ is some of Davoli’s best work yet, striking comparisons to Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, Big Thief and Wilco.

As an artist who embraces Nottingham’s live circuit, there are always plenty of chances to see Davoli perform - he’ll be at Dot to Dot festival later this month, Splendour Festival in the summer and then headlining The Bodega towards the end of the year on 1st November.
‘Tarmac Trees’ is now available on all streaming platforms.
